چکیده

In this correspondence, a dynamic reservation multiple access (D-RMA) protocol for third generation cellular mobile radio systems is proposed and its behavior is investigated under variable multimedia traffic conditions. D-RMA is a protocol which is explicitly designed to support multimedia traffic. Its structure is based on traditional PRMA++ protocol, but in addition to what PRMA++ provides, it introduces a flexible dynamic approach in the choice of the percentage of bandwidth to be used for reservation. Separation between reservation and information channels, along with dynamic adaptation of the percentage of reservation bandwidth within a frame to traffic condition, guarantee the required QoS to multimedia services. Results obtained show that the performance of D-RMA are superior when compared to a traditional “nondynamic” protocol, in terms of both the offered quality of service (QoS) and number of connections which can be activated in a microcell at one time.

A Contention/Reservation Access Protocol for Speech and Data Integration in TDMA-Based Advanced Mobile Systems

The performance of third generation mobile systems is greatly influenced by the multiple access protocols used in the radio access system. The paper introduces a multiple access protocol, SIR (Service Integration for Radio Access), which has the potential for accommodating the requirements of speech and bursty data traffic in an efficient way. SIR is evolved from an access protocol (PRMA++) stu...

A simulation study of Space and Time Reservation Multiple Access - Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 1995. PIMRC'95. 'Wireless: Merging onto the Info

The paper introduces a new protocol for wireless cellular networks by combining a time reservation scheme with a dynamic space reservation scheme. The proposed new protocol, known as the Space and Time Reservation Multiple Access (STRMA) protocol, does not use a fured reuse pattern but allows a dynamic reservation of bandwidth in both time and space. The performance of this protocol found by si...

A TCDMA protocol for next-generation wireless cellular networks with bursty traffic and diverse QoS requirements

In this paper, we propose the heterogeneous CDMA (H-CDMA) protocol, a time code division multiple access (TCDMA) protocol consisting of the centralized single-allocation function (CSF), the centralized multipleallocation function (CMF), and the distributed multiple-allocation function (DMF). CSF or CMF can achieve high throughput and support differentiated service quality in conventional cellul...

Performance evaluation of a joint CDMA/NC-PRMA protocol for wireless multimedia communications

A joint code division multiple access and noncollision packet reservation multiple access (CDMA/NC-PRMA) technique is proposed and investigated as an uplink protocol for the third-generation (3G) mobile systems. Being the underlying time division multiple access (TDMA) architecture of the CDMA transmissions, NC-PRMA enables the base station (BS) to have a centralized control over the slot alloc...
